Welcome

Atmosphere, both figurative and literal, captivates me and I try to evoke this through each creation.

Over the years I have been drawn towards skies, light and reflections. My happy place has always been outdoors, especially the coast. It’s incredibly healing to look out at the horizon, across the water, whatever the weather.

I’m fascinated by light and how it behaves, hence why prominent light beams and reflections are a hallmark of my style. Even on a grey day, there is such beauty in the constantly evolving lightshow above our heads.

As a semi-abstract artist, a feeling or theme is what drives each piece. This gives space for personal interpretation and escapism.

One of my aims is to give the viewer a place to shake off the daily grind – by getting lost in the details, unexpected marks, textures or light changes – and resurface feeling more grounded and relaxed…maybe even ‘inspired’ 🙂

Metallic paint brings my work to life as it catches the light. Just as sun rays move and change, I try to capture that shifting light in my paintings. I like to use palettes that alternate between warm and cool tones, bringing a new feeling and atmosphere depending on the time of day or weather. It’s incredible how much light can create such dramatic temperature shifts in a piece.

Why birds? There is so much timeless symbolism around these poetic creatures. They can be a beacon of hope, love and peace but also a reminder of the beauty of life and our planet, and the need to cherish it. As the everyday rising and setting of the sun reassures us of a new day and the chance of a fresh start, the movement of their flight gives the viewer a sense of ‘breaking free’ and resetting.

The ever changing, often tumultuous, sky through which they soar and glide can remind us how to be strong – as they ride the winds of a storm – but also how to enjoy the good times – as they coast on gentle currents.

Changing skies reassure us that nothing is fixed and there is always scope for new possibilities, growth and transformation.
